The most ideal time for visiting Char Dham is during the summer season, between the end of April and the first half of June. During this time of the year, Yamunotri Dham, Gangotri Dham, Badrinath Dham and Kedarnath Dham experience pleasant and balmy days, which is ideal for sightseeing and temple visits.
The most popular route often taken for the Chardham yatra is:
Haridwar – Mussoorie – Barkot – Yamunotri – Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Guptkashi – Gaurikund – Kedarnath – Joshimath – Badrinath – Devprayag – Rishikesh – Haridwar
The Chardham Yatra starts from the month of April or May and lasts until October or November. All four temples – Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yumunotri, and Gangotri – remain open for worship till Diwali, which is generally celebrated during October or November every year. After Diwali, all the temples are shut due to heavy snowfall and unfavourable weather in the region.
The complete Chardham yatra will take you around 10 days. During this 10 days tour, you can explore important destinations including Barot, Haridwar, Yamunotri Temple, Divya Shila, Surya Kund, Uttarkashi, Prakateshwar Caves, Gangotri Temple, Guptakshi, Kedarnath Temple, Rudrprayag, Badrinath Temple, Mata Murti Temple, Vyas Gufa, & Narad Kund.
The road condition for the Chardham yatra is in a better condition compared to what it was before the 2013 floods. While some terrains have lenient gradients, others are steep at various places. If you are not comfortable trekking, you can rent a mule or a palanquin for the journey. You also have the option to enjoy the Chardham tour, flying in a helicopter.
With substantial downpours, flooding, and landslides taking place at various regions of the Chardham because of overflowing rivers, monsoons are not a great time for doing the Chardham yatra. However, the period right after the monsoons, from September to mid-November is again recommended for doing the Chardham tour as the valleys are packed with lush greenery during this time of the year.
Yes, it is possible for you to do Chardham Yatra by helicopter. If you choose to enjoy a helicopter tour of the Chardham, you will have to take your helicopter from the helipad in Dehradun and fly to all the temples of Chardham one after the other for darshan.
- Vasuki Tal Trek:If you’re an adventure enthusiast, include a trekking tour to the high-altitude glacial lake, Vasuki Tal in your Chardham Yatra package. Starting from Gaurikund, this trek will take you to an elevation of 14,200 feet, offering stunning views of the Chaukhamba peaks.
- Seek Blessings at Triyuginarayan:Your Chardham Yatra package is definitely incomplete if you have not included a visit to the picturesque village of Triyuginarayan, which is the wedding destination of Lord Shiva. While you are here, seek blessings at Trijugi Narayan temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
- Spend Some time at Syalsaur:Have some time in your Chardham tour package to relax at the green and peaceful hill station of Syalsaur. While at Syalsaur, you will get a perfect place to relax and romance, amidst nature, on the serene banks of River Mandakini.
